Dear Parents,
It is Week 5 already and this week marks two significant events.
Firstly, Remembrance Day will be conducted tomorrow at 11 am near our flagpoles. Our Year 6 leaders will lead the ceremony and a minutes silence will be observed. Flag protocols will be followed and the Last Post played.
Secondly, NAIDOC week will be celebrated this week. We have placed numerous items on the playground for students to engage with aboriginal resources in free play. Classes have also marked both events in class activities fitting their year levels.
Our small school acknowledges the importance of student wellbeing every day. We have collated a Student Wellbeing graphic to show the many elements we use to support our students in navigating the social and emotional challenges that they encounter. Building positive relationships is critical in supporting our young people and we prioritise this in everything we do at St Mary’s. One of the simple ways in which we support students is by using classroom visual timetables to outline the day. This happens every morning in each classroom. The visual timetable provides a predictable environment and helps to lower possible anxiety because they know what to expect over the day.
Our second Kindergarten 2021 transition day is tomorrow. We look forward to having three new students with us again.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Kind Regards
Jannine
On 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after four years of continuous warfare. With their armies retreating and close to collapse, German leaders signed an Armistice, bringing to an end the First World War. By early October the exhausted Australians were withdrawn from battle. They had achieved a fighting reputation out of proportion to their numbers, but victory had come at a heavy cost. They suffered almost 48,000 casualties during 1918, including more than 12,000 dead.
Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts.
Bookfair closes tomorrow afternoon. Students are welcome to purchase at lunchtime or parents can ring the office to make a time to view the fair.
Thank you to Scholastic for the donation of gift vouchers. Every child's name was put into a 'Lucky Draw' for a chance to win a book, poster or stationery item. The 'Lucky Draw' took place at Assembly on Friday. Congratulations to the winners who were able to select a prize of their choice.

In Geography over the last few weeks, Year 4/5/6 have been looking at the continent of Asia, specifically the countries that make up Asia. Students have been researching their traditions, food, culture, and celebrations. We are beginning this week to create eBooks about several countries so that we can share our understandings with the rest of the class. We have been looking at Chinese artwork and origami and have been practicing the art of folding and cutting paper lanterns. We have also been looking at the celebration and tradition of the Chinese New Year and looking at what animal represented the year that we were born within the Zodiac calendar.
2/3 have been doing so many different types of hands on learning activities about fractions in the last week. We have been splitting collections of counters into halves and quarters, as well as finding less than half and more than half. We also used unifix cubes to create towers, halved them, built one and a half towers and even two towers, based on our whole of one. Who would have thought fractions could be so fun?
