Dear Parents/Carers,

Thank you to the wonderful students who attended the Opening of the Refurbished Literary Institute last Friday evening. It was such a special opportunity to showcase our school once again to the community especially with the special dignitaries that were also present. We are so proud of our students and thank parents for supporting these special community occasions.

We are really excited to be welcoming author/illustrator, Megan Forward to St Mary’s this week. Megan is presenting her book ‘All I want for Christmas is Rain’ to the students along with a special art and science combined activity. Please remember to send along a painting smock or old shirt for this special activity.

K/1 and Ms Soulsby are excited to be presenting their K/1 assembly THIS Friday. All parents and carers are welcome to come along to the library at 2.15pm for this assembly.

Book Fair has arrived and the students have been very keen to come along to the library and browse through the great array of books and special items on display. Parents/carers are welcome to call into the library and purchase some books on the days advertised below in the newsletter.

I will be away this week on Long Service Leave. Mrs Richards will be the Acting Principal during my absence.

Week 3 awards will be presented with week 4 awards at assembly on Friday.

This week the Dunlop family will be on cake raffle. Tickets are sold for 20c each.

Our home cooks this Friday are the Woodland and Wilkinson/Skerry families.

Items are sold each Friday for 50c each 

Our Radio announcers next Tuesday 13th November will be Hazel & Daniel.

Tune in at 1.45pm to hear what is happening at St Mary's. 

Tomorrows "Summer Sizzler" will be chicken tender wraps with lettuce, mayo and salad. 

$3.50 per serve or 2 serves per person for $5.

Zooper Doopers 80c and Icecream cones $1 also available each week.

Due to the years 2-6 cricket day "summer sizzlers" will be on TUESDAY next week and will be NACHOS.

You are invited to our Scholastic Book Fair: READING IS OUT OF THIS WORLD!

WHEN: This Monday 5th November until Friday 9th November.

Books and stationery items will be available to purchase after school Monday, Tuesday and Thursday afternoon as well as Friday morning.

WHERE: St Mary's School Library

The children will have the opportunity to look at the book fair in their library time and make a wish list!!

We have a wonderful range of books to purchase... it might be a great chance to start some Christmas shopping!

Payment can be made by cash and eftpos is also available for the fair. 

Don't forget our school banking day is MONDAY! 

Year K/1 and Miss Soulsby are holding a class assembly this Friday 9^th November at 2.15pm in the school library.

This will be the ONLY class assembly this term as Year K/1 missed the opportunity last term.

Mums, dads, carers, grandparent and family members all welcome to attend.

Next Wednesday 14th November years 2-6 will be attending a "Cricket Blast Cup" at the Batlow Oval from 9-15am -2.30pm.

More information will be sent out later in the week. 

On Monday K/1 had two special visitors. Constable Aimee Zwicki (Batlow) and Senior Constable Joe Camilleri (Cootamundra) came to visit K/1 to talk about safety and those people we know we can trust in our Community.

At morning tea the police officers spent some time on the playground chatting to students.

Thank you for your input to those families who completed and returned our survey. The day and time most families preferred was Monday 17th December at 2pm. 

Last Friday ten students in Year 5/6 travelled by private car to McAuley Catholic Central School, Tumut, to participate in a day titled, What is Social Justice? This day was organised by the Society of St Vincent de Paul. Our presenters Wes, Therese and Patricia, led the students through three workshops which focused on a different aspect of  living below the poverty line. Interesting activities allowed students to explore what it means to 'sleep rough' and why people may need to  'couch surf' when they are faced with challenges. The content was often explained through simple games and human graphs. The day also raised many questions of how we can support people in need. The story of The Good Samaritan was pivotal as it was this story from Luke's Gospel, that inspired St Vincent when he was walking through the streets of Paris three hundred years ago. What an amazing legacy St Vincent has encouraged. 

I would like to complement the students on their excellent behaviour and the learning they undertook over the day. It was also a great day to combine with Year 5/6 students from McAuley CCS and St Joseph's Adelong.

Recently, I have had two separate conversations with parents requesting information on becoming Catholic.  

If seeking the sacrament of baptism for yourself, or for your child, parents will need to contact the Tumut Parish and discuss the process with either Fr George or Fr Namora.  Phone: (02) 6947 4599 They will welcome your call.

The rituals of the sacraments are performed by the Parish Priests.  They are always held in weekend Mass times.

Once baptised Catholic students are invited to complete the next three sacraments, usually during the course of their primary years. Mrs Murray prepares the students for Reconciliation, First Holy Communion and Confirmation. She works closely with parents and the parish. Several lessons are conducted separate from class work and includes a workbook for the students to complete at home with the family. Preparation reveals the gift of grace about to be bestowed on them. It is a very special time for both the candidates and their families.

I am the Religious Education Coordinator for St Mary's Primary School.

Please remeber especially as the weather gets warmer, drink bottles need to be thoroughly washed out to stop the growth of mould which can lead to sickness. This is more often in bottles which have juice or cordial in them. 

Unfortunatley we had to cancel our ticket selling in front of IGA last Thursday due to no offers from families to help sell.

We have another stall booked for Thursday 15th November and if we don't get helpers we will sadly have to cancel again. 

Tickets for this raffle will be sent home soon to families and will be drawn on Friday 14th December at the RSL Club.
