Dear Parents and Carers,

We are in the final week of term and that means ‘Breakfast Top Up’ has been trialled for ten weeks. Staff and students can see real value in continuing this program into Term 4. Several students regularly seek a ‘top-up’ but it does vary. We have started a lovely routine which is really easy to implement in our little canteen. We put out a table cloth and the students sit and chat while having toast or weet bix.  Their conversations are delightful and they appear to love the social side of chatting over a meal around a table. The program is too simple not to continue. A big thank you to Sam and Yin Shang from Batlow IGA, staff and also Isabelle, our Yr 6 Hospitality leader, for supporting this program.

Last week we found out that we have been successful in an application to the St Vinnies Bushfire Recovery Scheme. We will receive $16 000 to add to our students playground experience. Two new pieces of equipment will be installed and some ‘painted games’ will also be placed on our new concrete area. It is so wonderful to receive this support and we are truly grateful.

Last week we had our shade shelters replaced. The old ones had really stood up to the test of time lasting for well over ten years, but they had started to deteriorate and tear particularly in the latest snow fall. Our new covers will continue to provide shade for our students for another ten years or more.

Year 6 are inviting us all to celebrate Footy Colours Day this Wednesday! Students are invited to wear their team colours to support children with cancer through a gold coin donation. This is such an important cause to get behind and I know the students are looking forward to doing what they can.

We have a K-6 Mass this Thursday and will be celebrating St Mary, our patron saint, in our prayers and songs. A big thank you in advance to our Year 3  students who will be leading us in the readings.

I hope that all our students and their families have a lovely holiday. I hope the weather allows for long walks, picnics and afternoons in the sunshine, somewhere.

A children's Mass will be held Sunday 25th October at 8.30 am.

We would like all students to attend this special Mass.

Any child attending can participate in the Mass, ie: a Reading, Prayer of the Faithful,

Offertery etc. Please notify the school office if you will be at the Mass.

Principal's Award

A reminder that Term 3 fees are now due unless you are paying by regular instalments.

Day 1 of Term 4 Monday 12th October will be a PUPIL FREE DAY. 

Staff have a professional development day on Challenging Learning.

First day for students in Term 4 will be Tuesday 13th October.

Last week Year 2/3 were looking at data & graphing in Maths.

Here the students are collecting data by surveying each other before making a picture graph to match. 

In science K/1 have been learning to feel vibrations of a phone ringing, their throats when singing through balloons, when talking and when listening to music. K/1 enjoyed this fun investigation and were left wondering if all sounds are made from vibrations.

In Maths in Year 4/5/6, we have been using counters, coins and dice to experiment about Chance and Statistics to achieve certain outcomes. We conducted an experiment to see if whispering to a dice gave us better luck in rolling a number 6. Students conducted a lot of dice rolls, so they had enough data to accurately come up with a justified answer. We concluded that it doesn't matter if we whisper to the dice as it all came down to chance. We drew up accurate graphs to make sure that our findings were visually represented and accurate. Students enjoyed being able to give reasons to support their findings.

  In Science, we have been investigating the topic of Light. We have been looking at shadows, light sources, and the ways that light interact with different objects. We have looked at what happens when light reflects, is absorbed, and transmits. We will continue to look at shadows over the coming week to finish the unit.
