Hello Parents,
Last week was Book Week! We had a wonderful celebration and enjoyed talking about our favourite characters and books. It was just what we needed and put a "bright spot" in our term. Thank you parents and students, and staff, for getting involved. We know you will enjoy the photos in this newsletter.
CE Communications
Our Director Ross Fox has forwarded two communications to staff and parents over the past week. One involved a Social Media alert which I sent out to parents last Wednesday via Schoolszine. This was an alarming communication for us all. To date I have not been notified by parents of any experiences our students may have had, which is good news. Please don’t hesitate to let me know if you have any concerns or want to bring an incident to our attention. In this newsletter, Mr Fox also would like to respond to an investigation by the ABC in regard to Catholic school funding. It contains information to support the positive actions Catholic schools have in regard to funding. Once again, please don’t hesitate to contact me for further information if needed.
Registration
St Mary’s is up for registration early next term, Tuesday and Wednesday 13/14 October. The registration process occurs every 5 years for all NSW schools, Catholic and non-Catholic. A panel of three representatives will be visiting our school and checking that all facets of school documentation, policies, curriculum, building maintenance, finances and our Catholic identity are well maintained and managed. It is an affirming process for St Mary’s and we look forward to the panels commendations and recommendations.
Mass and Liturgy are held every Sunday at 8:30am. Mass is now held every 2nd and 4th Sunday alternating with Liturgy. If you would like to come along please know you are always welcome.

The Resilience Project
The Resilience Project has developed a daily well-being journal app. Each day users will be prompted to identify their emotions, record moments of gratitude and practice mindfulness. The aim is to develop emotional literacy, engage with the positive things in life and be actively present.
It is a great tool to help you practise gratitude, empathy & mindfulness.
The app is suitable for and has programs designed specifically for primary & secondary school students, as well as adults of all ages wanting to improve their mental well-being.

A reminder that boxes must be returned to school by NEXT FRIDAY 25th September
along with $10 per box for postage.

Last week year 4/5/6 students explored Little Bits and Mindstorms individually and in pairs.
At the end the students were asked to share an explanation of what they were able to construct.
There was excellent dialogue and great team work happening.
YEAR 2/3 were focusing on measurement last week. We used trundle wheels to measure the length of objects and distances of parts of our playground.
BLACK SHOES ARE TO BE WORN TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY.
JOGGERS AND TRACK PANTS ARE ONLY TO BE WORN ON SPORTS DAYS WHICH ARE MONDAY & FRIDAY.
Please remember to pack TWO drink bottles everyday, if you can.
One for inside and one for breaks outside.
Bubblers are out of use due to COVID restrictions.
Staff will refill bottles as required.
A reminder for students not to come to school if unwell.
Parents are to keep students at home if they are presenting with cold/flu like symptoms and seek a COVID test.
Students are not to return to school until a negative result of the test is sighted by the front office.
PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND IN AN ABSENTEE NOTE ON THE SKOOLZINE APP.
We appreciate parent support in this guideline for the safety of all students and staff at St Mary’s.
Day 1 of Term 4 Monday 12th October will be a PUPIL FREE DAY. Staff have professional development day on Challenging Learning.
First day for students in Term 4 will be Tuesday 13th October.
