Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope all families have had a relaxing break. The students were keen to get back this morning to catch up with their friends and teachers and get back into routine. It was wonderful to see them. I’m positive they have all grown taller over the holiday break!
Over the holidays we have been blessed to receive some workforce support from Laing O’Rourke employees. They have completed so many jobs around our school voluntarily and Bunnings has donated some items as well. We have been so fortunate and thank James and his team with grateful hearts.
This term continues to see some restrictions in place as we continue to manage life with Covid 19. As advised in yesterday’s email, drop off and pick up arrangements will need to continue as will hygiene routines and regular daily cleaning. Students presenting with cold/flu like symptoms are asked to stay at home.
At St Mary’s, we typically have our large class assemblies towards the end of each term and in Term 3 we have our highly anticipated Book Week Celebration. I will keep you posted on those events as soon as they have been finalised and hopefully we can look forward to gathering as a school community once again. In the meantime please continue to follow us on Facebook for some updates and let us know you’re there. Look out for our emails, especially every Tuesday when our weekly newsletter is forwarded. Otherwise, social distancing measures at the gate will still permit our quick parent teacher chats and catch ups. Please know we are only a phone call and email away.
A regular feature of our newsletter this term will be about The Resilience Project. We want to kept parents up to date with the message and intent of the program so that parents can continue the important conversation about resilience at home with your child as well. This project will be a large part of our Personal Development and Health programs this semester but will also be embedded in daily teaching and learning activities and conversations. Teachers will be unpacking the program in our staff meeting ready to start delivering the program from next week.
Have a lovely week everyone.

St Mary's staff attended professional development yesterday. Father Richard Leonard SJ led the day for all Western Region schools staff.
The topic for the day was "Catholic identity: How can Catholic Education form believers in a media saturated culture?"
As those involved in Catholic Education we are called upon to live out our faith - to speak and live out the Good News. A tough ask! We are sent to our culture as it is, not as we would like it to be. And whether we like it of not, the media is the modern day marketplace where minds and hearts are won and lost.
There were three sessions to this workshop:
1. What is the media telling us about ourselves?
2. What is on our agenda?
3. What can we do about it in Catholic Education?
What strategies can we put in place to ensure that our people are prepared to critically engage with the media saturated culture while holding true to their faith in Jesus and the Community of the Church?
The Spirituality Day was well received by staff, who enjoyed Father Leonards knowledgeable and often humourous presentation.
Please remember to pack a water bottle everyday.
Because of Covid restrictions the bubblers are not to be used.
The Australian Kidney Foundation recommend that 5 to 8 year olds should drink 1 litre of water per day and 9 to 12 year olds about 1.5 litres per day.
Mass is held in BATLOW on the FIRST & THIRD SUNDAY of the month at 8.30am.
A MORNING TEA WILL BE HELD ON SUNDAY 2nd AUGUST AFTER MASS TO CELEBRATE TEN YEARS SINCE FATHER GEORGE WAS ORDAINED A PRIEST.
ALL WELCOME TO ATTEND. PLEASE BRING A PLATE OF FOOD TO SHARE.
COVID-19 PROTOCOL AND SICKNESS PROCEDURES
If your child displays any signs of illness, cold or flu like symptoms they should stay at home.
If students are referred to the school office their temperature will be checked and you will be asked to collect them.
Students are to bring their own drink bottle and fill it from the cold tap – no access to bubblers.
Parents are discouraged from attending the school office and school common areas if at all possible.
Pickup and drop off at the front gate.
WE WILL BE IN NEED OF SOME MORE FAMILIES TO GO ON OUR HOME COOKING ROSTER ONCE PER TERM, once Covid-19 retrictions ease.
If you could assist with this please let the office know.
We thank those families who already volunteer on our home cooking roster each term.
Our first radio radio announcers for the term next Tuesday 28 July will be
