Dear Parents,
Jannine
St Mary’s Primary School is committed to providing a safe, secure and stimulating learning environment for all students. We understand that students reach their full potential only when they are happy, healthy and safe, and that a positive school culture helps to engage students and support them in their learning.
We are pleased to announce that we will begin working with The Resilience Project in Term 3.
The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs to schools, providing practical, evidence-based, positive mental health strategies to build resilience and happiness. Through presentations, school curriculum, student diaries and their app, they seek to help all Australians become mentally healthy.
The Resilience Project curriculum was designed by teachers for teachers and aligns with NSW and Australian Curriculum standards and framework in the areas of Personal and Social Capabilities and the Health and Physical Education.
The program is based on the philosophy that, in order to live a happier more fulfilling life, we need to regularly practise Gratitude, Empathy (kindness) and Mindfulness. Emotional literacy – having self-awareness and recognition of one's own feelings and knowing how to manage them – is also an integral part of the program.
The Resilience Project works with the whole school community including teachers, students and parents helping them understand the importance of practicing and implementing key principles to build resilience and drive sustainable change.
Yesterday K/1 led the whole school in morning prayer. The children shared what they had been learning about places where they feel welcomed, through the scripture story ‘Jesus and the Children’, some prayers of intercession and a song. You may like to share these at home with your family.
Dear God,
Thank you for our mums and dads and all of our families who always make us feel welcomed and loved at home.
Lord hear us
Dear God,
Thank you for Mrs Richards, the teachers and all of the children who always make us feel welcomed and loved at school.
Lord hear us
Dear God,

Birthday wishes this week go to Amara who turn 10 on the 8th July and James M who turns 7 on the 18th July. Have a lovely holiday birthday.
Year 2/3 have been creating some abstract artworks using straws to blow the ink across the page to make them look like leaves on the trees. This is symbolising the colourful birds we see in our trees around Batlow.
This term in music with Ms Wild, the students have been working on RHYTHM. Each class group has learnt to recognize, draw and perform rhythms on percussion instruments, using notes and rests appropriate to their age group. The students have all embraced this learning and Ms Wild is very excited about their progress and enthusiasm. Congratulations to all students!
As well as experiencing the concepts of Rhythm, the classes have been learning new songs involving movement as well as singing and are enjoying it very much. Years 4,5,6 have been learning to sing a selection of "old time" songs, including When You're Smiling, You Are My Sunshine, Baby Face, If You Knew Susie and Deep In The Heart Of Texas. We are learning these songs with the aim of singing them to our elderly residents at the Batlow Hospital Day Care as soon as we are able.
Ms Wild says she is extremely impressed with the way all of the students have approached their music lessons. Their enthusiasm and participation has been fantastic and she is looking forward to introducing the students to more musical experiences next term.
Next term Mrs Richards has organised a African Drumming Workshop for all the students.
