Dear Parents and Carers,
What a beautiful weekend! The weather was cold but perfect to get out and about and, perhaps, drive a little further than usual as social distancing restrictions ease across our region. At St Mary’s, students are still following the guidelines of personal hygiene and we can be very proud of our students who are now very aware of the need to wash their hands for 20 seconds, cough into their sleeve, sneeze into a tissue and dispose of tissues responsibly. We have ample hand sanitiser and soap at school and cleaning measures are still in place on high touch areas and school desks and chairs. Students are still required to bring their own water bottle as the bubblers remain closed. Staff are not to attend work if experiencing cold like symptoms. Parents are also reminded to keep their children at home if they have cold/flu like symptoms as well too. Thank you for your understanding in using the Student Drop Off and Pick Up area during this time. Hopefully, we will soon be back to normal and movement in and out of the school gates will be relaxed.
Our calendar is still very clear which means that teaching and learning conditions are optimal. Classes are settled and students are working on programs consistently and productively. As we head into our end of semester reporting period teachers are gathering assessment data to formalise grades. Parents are reminded that student daily attendance is crucial to support student learning and growth especially during this period. ‘School matters every day’ for students both academically and socially.
This week our Year 6 Media Leader, Catriona Jackson, introduces her new ‘column’ showcasing Payton Willems (Year 2). Other initiatives for our Year 6 leaders include our new pot plants near the front gate that Year 6 Environment Leader, Jade Booby, has been helping me with. Isabelle Trueman, Year 6 Hospitality Host, and Caleb Brown, Year 6 Sport Leader have also been making plans for future initiatives in their dedicated area. Together, our student leadership team is also preparing a whole school focus to conclude and celebrate a very productive Term 2. We are very proud of our leaders and we know they relish in the opportunities their leadership year allows them to experience at our school.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Jannine
