Hello Parents and Carers,
As we wind up a long term, St Mary’s staff and I reflect on the resilience of our students and parents. You are still smiling and have a sense of humour even though we are now in a second major ‘emergency’ within 3 months. Last week at school, our small band of students were socially isolating as best they could when eating, working and even standing in the handball line. But they are children and 1.5 metres can seem a huge distance. We are all washing our hands often and sneezing into our sleeves and we are very lucky to still have hand sanitiser! Our quick adjustment to new routines has been truly inspiring.
We do hope we have helped in some way to make the start to 2020 a little bit smoother. We have certainly been tested this year and our current response to the COVID 19 emergency is far from resolved.
Our calendar has been cleared for Term 2, as I’m sure yours at home has been too. Student wellbeing and remote learning is our highest priority. Please do not hesitate to get in contact with me if you need to let me know of any concerns you have in regard to continuity of learning, or seeking support.
Term 2 Student Attendance
An email was forwarded yesterday regarding your intentions for your child’s school attendance in Term 2. Your responses are due by this Thursday to assist our planning. At this stage, we know that St Mary’s will continue with the remote learning model for students whether they are at school or at home. Parents are still encouraged to keep their children at home if they possibly can to support social isolation recommendations. The numbers of students at school will affect how we may organise the school day. Your responses do not lock you into a decision. We just need an indication of approximate student numbers at this stage.
Professional Learning for Staff
Teachers are spending this week in professional learning working through Microsoft Teams to ensure Google Classrooms and See Saw remain stable and safe for our students when remote learning. We have much to learn and appreciate the additional time to concentrate on building expertise in a new platform.
Easter Raffle
This Thursday, we will be drawing our Easter Raffle at 10am. If you are still requiring tickets please phone Ms Marsh or Ms Holland in the front office and they will be able to help you. All proceeds will go to Project Compassion particularly families in the Phillipines this year. Good luck!
Have a lovely and Holy Easter everyone. I wish you all a break that is full of cheer and quality family time.
Blessings
Jannine
