Hello Parents and Carers,
We celebrate Mass this Thursday to bless our new school year. Year 6 will be inducted as our new school leaders and Kindergarten students will be officially welcomed and presented with their first St Mary’s certificate. All parents, grandparents, family and friends are welcome to join us in the church at 10am which will be followed by morning tea. Please join us.
Following morning tea, students from Year 2 to 6 will walk to the pool to compete in our swimming carnival. It will be a big day, but one for us all to enjoy.
Next Monday, our St Mary’s Swimming Team will compete at the Western Region Swimming Carnival in Harden. We wish all competitors a wonderful day and know they will represent our school proudly.
White Cross Dental will be with us this Wednesday. Thank you to all parents who returned notes well ahead of time for students to access this service.
Finally, thank you for your patience as our concreting project nears completion. It will be a practical addition to our playground and support numerous school activities. Due to the glare from the concrete students are encouraged to wear sunglasses for the term. There are some available in the uniform shop already.
The final touch to our school entrance will be new gates, which will be installed shortly, to make our front entrance more secure. The concreting has been an initiative between the school, St Mary’s Community Council and the St Mary’s Parish.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Jannine
Isn’t this rain a godsend? Our prayers have been answered.
I am hoping you have all found the school routine settling.
Our Opening School Mass will be held on Thursday 13th February at 10:00 am in St. Mary’s Church. During this Mass our 2020 Year 6 Class will be with their badges. A special presentation will also be made to our new Kindergarten. An invitation is extended to all our St Mary’s families to celebrate with us on Thursday. Our school Mass will celebrate the beginning of the Year and to new beginnings.
The following prayer was shared with me; if you can take the time to read it.
Reflection
What will this year bring?
We do not know;
It will bring its usual times of work and play,
Experiences of success and failure,
All the things that are part of school life.
It is a new beginning;
The planting of a seed that will grow for a year,
The seed of fruit that will blossom in times to come.
It is new hope;
Hope for good work, for successful results,
For friendships, for fun, for learning.
In this coming year, may there be learning, prayer and fun.
May there be hard work, faith and friendship.
May no one in this school be lonely;
May no one be left out in class;
May no one suffer through the others here.
As we begin this year in hope, in prayer and in friendship,
May the Lord begin it with us, be with us during it,
And successfully bring it to its conclusion.
Three Way Interviews will be available in Week 5 on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Please select a timeslot for this ‘meet and greet’ opportunity on the schoolszine app. All students are with a new teacher this year and so the three way conversation is an important step for every student to have their parent and their teacher together to share their new school year happenings. Student goals can be set together to start learning targets for the term and into the rest of 2020.
Please follow the link below to book your time.
All students need a school hat every day. No hat…Play in the shade! Please ensure hats are labelled with child’s names/initials.
The Batlow Show is on Saturday 28 March. What a town and what a committee! This year we have a good reason to celebrate being a community after the bushfires. Our school will be putting in our school display once again. We hope you get a chance to get there and look at our students’ work.
We have been invited to man the ‘back gate’ at the show from 7 to 4pm by the Batlow Show Committee. The school receives a small donation from the Show Society for our support. Please let us know if your available for an hour or so through the schoolszine email ‘Batlow Show Back Gate Support’ or follow the link below.

We have a few families who haven't paid the swimming carnival lunch money from last week.
A friendly reminder if you haven't paid to do so in to the account
BSB 062-786 ACC 000027184 as soon as possible or drop the money in to the office.
It was unfortunate that due to the smoke haze last Wednesday we had to postpone our swimming carnival. Our decision to postpone was based on the best interest of students. The air quality was very poor for an extended period outside. It was disappointing for all of us.
There are thunderstorms predicted for today and Wednesday. We will endeavour to have the carnival Thursday 13 February starting at 12pm after the Opening School Mass in the morning at 10am. There is still a slight forecast of rain for Thursday, so we have decided to take only Yr 2 to Yr 6 students only to the pool to complete the carnival. K/1 will remain at school.
We will conduct the events as quick as possible so that we can form a St Mary’s Swimming Team to participate in the Western Region Swimming Carnival on the following Monday 17 February in Harden. We are operating on a tight timeline. Thank you for your understanding.
Students will walk to and from the pool next Thursday departing at 11:30am and return to school by 3:00pm. They will need to bring:
- a packed lunch
- water
- swimmers
- towel
- hat
- sunscreen
Students will need to be in full school uniform (Dresses for girls) for the Opening Mass in the morning, but can bring along their green and red clothes to change into for the carnival.
Our carnival will be a wonderful afternoon. Please feel free to join us to cheer on your children. If you have not already signed and submitted the permission note sent out last Friday please go to the link below.
