Hello Parents and Carers,
This week we acknowledge the successes and achievements for 2019. Tomorrow is our Awards Day where every student is acknowledged for their achievements over 2019. It will be held in the Literary Institute starting at 1:30pm.
On Thursday, we give thanks for our school year and the many blessings we have shared as a school and community. We take time to farewell our graduating students, Year 6, followed by a morning tea. All parents are welcome to join us in St Mary’s Church at 10am.
Also, in our Thanksgiving Mass we will be farewelling two staff members. Ms Jess Soulsby has a position at St Joseph’s Adelong for 2019 and Ms Mercedes Brown is leaving as she and her husband, Robert, welcome a new baby into their little family early next year.
In other items, I would like to congratulate the Year 6 leaders on running a very successful Country Day last week. It raised a massive total of $470! Ms Collins and all our students are very pleased to be spreading some Christmas joy towards St Patrick’s Primary School in Trundle.
Next Tuesday is our end of year party at the Batlow Swimming Pool. Funds from home cooking and cake raffles conducted this year fund this day. Please see further details about Pool Day in this newsletter and also via a separate email. Thank you for supporting our Friday cooking initiative over the year. The students really do look forward to the opportunity to spend money and enjoy a treat.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Jannine
Please keep staff and children and their families of St. Bede’s at Braidwood, St. Bernard’s Batemans Bay and Carroll College Broulee in your prayers. They have been affected by fires, extreme temperatures and road closures. Christmas for some will be bleak.
In the second week of Advent, a second purple candle is lit. It represents faith, and is called the ‘Bethlehem Candle’. A reminder of Mary and Joseph’s journey to Bethlehem. We are reminded that God gave us the greatest love in the little town of Bethlehem in a humble manger.
Our Year 6 and Giving Mass is this Thursday 12th December at 10:00 am. Baskets for our contribution to St. Vincent de Paul Christmas hampers are at the front office of school. Items can be dropped off up until Thursday morning.
We would love to see you on Thursday. Come and have a cup of tea after Mass...

Secret Santa or Kris Kringle (KK) gift giving has been a long tradition of St Mary’s Primary School. It is always exciting, and it is a gesture of friendship and sharing that is important to each and every student. But this year we have simplified this gift giving activity.
We ask that every student provide one gift only on the very last day of term, Wednesday 18 December, to the maximum value of $10, which will go under our school Christmas tree. If students could bring in a gift for their gender and class group, clearly labelled e.g. Boy, Year 2/3/4 or Girl K/1. The gift could also be non-gender specific for any student in their class group.
Students will find out that morning who their KK is and make a card for them. Teachers will assist in distributing the gifts using music so that each student experiences the act of giving generously and receiving graciously.
Next Tuesday 17th December is St Mary's Pool Day. Students may come in casual clothes on the day.
Lunch, a drink and Zooper Dooper will be provided.
Please bring swimmers, towel, rashie or T shirt, sunscreen and a hat. Please also bring 'crunch and sip' and recess as usual.
A separate information letter with permission note and lunch order form will be sent through Schoolzine. Please sign and submit by this Friday.

A SZapp update has been released for iPhones which have recently updated their software to iOS 13 or above. This update will resolve an issue of some devices intermittently receiving push notifications, which may impact some of our parents. |
