Hello Parents and Carers,
I have to thank all involved for a successful ‘Trivia Night’ last Saturday at the Batlow RSL, which is our major fundraiser for the year. It is always well organised by a small committee and is such a good night of fun. A big thank you to all the organisations and people who donated items over the previous months. The prizes were truly amazing and reflect our wonderful community spirit. Thank you!
Yesterday, we celebrated St Mary’s Feast Day with Whole School Prayer, a special lunch and some afternoon activities. A great time was had by all and it was such a lovely afternoon of simple fun. Thank you to Patrina Clee on the barbecue and those who came along to enjoy our hospitality.
I have been working in all classrooms over the past week reworking our St Mary’s school rules. The rules we have are now simplified to:
Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful and Be Kind. We want our students to be able to tell anyone who asks what the school rules are, quickly and confidently. Students are expected to know the rules and understand what positive behaviour looks like and what type of behaviour is a breach of our policy. The bottom line of our policy is that Every child deserves to be safe at our school. I’m confident that this message is supported at home as well. This Wednesday, staff will be working with CE Consultant Ms Carol Lamont on School Wide Positive Behaviour as we continue to develop and refine our Pastoral Care Policy and Anti Bullying Policy.
Congratulations to Daniel Korn who represented St Mary’s in the MacKillop Cricket side for his age level, last Friday in Wagga. Although not selected to go on further, Daniel enjoyed the opportunity and gained much experience to take him into the next cricket season.
As we prepare for the end of the term please be aware that I will be on leave for Week 9 and 10 as I attend a family wedding in Europe. I am very excited and really looking forward to the celebration. Chris Baron will take my seat on both Mondays. She is also looking forward to catching up with familiar faces and saying a final farewell to St Mary’s now that her position in Gundagai is now continuing. On other days, St Mary’s will be looked after by Ms Anne Saunderson and Ms Liz Murray.
Have a lovely week everyone.
Jannine
Year 6 Parents/Carers have you sent your permission for your child to travel with Mrs. Saunderson or Ms Holland to the Western Region Mass next Tuesday 17th September?. Lunch and recess is provided. We will leave by 8:45 am and will be back for home time.
What was one of the questions asked at St. Mary’s Trivia night on Saturday night? The answer is on this page!
Yesterday we celebrated the birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary our St. Mary’s Feast Day. We honour her on this day, remembering the words of the Angelus prayer…
A reminder that we will celebrate our writing publication with a Mass at 12:00 noon with the 2/3/4 Class on Thursday 26th September. Bring your sandwich and join us on the oval for a picnic lunch. Come into the classrooms and read your children’s exciting stories.
Seasons of Growth is a programme for children, young people or adults who have experienced significant change or loss in their lives. The feelings centred around change are normal and are often fought against as we don’t realise that they are normal. If you are interested in your child being part of this program could you contact the school for further information.
Last Thursday and Friday Daniel attended the NSW Catholic Primary Schools Mackillop trials representing the Archdiocese of Canberra Goulburn where he was one of eleven chosen back in Term One. Along with the Catholic dioceses of Wagga, Parramatta, Wollongong and Sydney a total of 66 boys trialed for a spot in one of two teams of twelve to play in PSSA State Cricket at Wollongong in October.
Although not successful in gaining a spot, this was a great experience and opportunity. Well done Daniel!
The Spring sun was shining so 2/3/4 took their Maths lesson outside for some active learning.
Students participated in a game of 'Coin Toss' where they had to race to throw coins into a bucket and reach a particular value e.g: $1.50, $4.75 etc.
When a coin made it in, the students had to record the coin’s value and the running total. The game combined physical activity, coin recognition and addition of money. Miss Buckmaster has been asked numerous times if they can play again because they had so much fun!
Our radio news presenters next Tuesday 17th September will be Nadamary and Catriona.
Jade and Sebastian our Week 6 presenters.
Tune in at 1.45pm to Sounds of the Mountains - 96.3 FM.
Please be aware that students will require their school hats from now on. The "No Hat, No Play" policy will take effect from the beginning of Term 4.
Please start reminding your children and we will do the same over the next 3 weeks.
Our winter warmer this week will be
Chicken and Vegetable Soup with a Bread Roll.
$3.50 per serve. Warm Milo $1.50.
