Hello Parents and Carers,
This Thursday evening we are offering a parent information night on ‘tips’ you can use at home when reading with your child. The focus will be on specific strategies that we commonly use in the classroom on a daily basis. All parents of students in Kindergarten to Year 3 are invited to attend, but all K-6 parents are most welcome. The evening will be conducted in the Year 2/3/4 classroom starting at 6:00 – and finishing before 7:00pm. Babysitting will be provided and tea and coffee will also be available. The evening will involve some discussion and include video examples of strategies. We hope to see you there.
Last term our Year 6 leaders held a pyjama day to support St Vincent de Paul’s Winter Appeal and successfully reached their target of $200, thanks to a very generous donation. This means that teachers needed to take on the challenge of purchasing an outfit from St Vincent de Paul to wear to school. No, we are not wearing silly items but, instead, showing options for recycling clothing at a reasonable cost. Well done Year 6!
Satisfaction surveys should have landed in your email box today. Your input is appreciated by St Mary’s and Catholic Education. Surveys will need to be completed by 9 August. Please let the office know if you have not received it. Thank you in advance.
Have a good week everyone.
Kind Regards
Jannine
'Father, may your name be holy, your kingdom come; give us each day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive each one who is in debt to us. And do not put us to the test'.
These words are possibly the more accurate words Jesus used for the 'Our Father' as we know it today. They were read at our weekend Masses. It is a prayer of community that is recognised world wide.
You are invited to celebrate The Feast of the Assumption on Thursday 15th August. This day is a holy day in the church calendar.
September 1st is Fathers Day. Our children's weekend Mass will be on this day, it would be wonderful to see the children and their dad's, grandfather's, uncle's or any male friends who are important to families to join us to celebrate 'Dads Day'.
Student of the Week
K/1 - James and Joshua
2/3/4 - Dylan and Liam W
5/6 - Sarah W
For back to school Term 3, CCNSW is running a campaign promoting our Healthy Lunch Box website healthylunchbox.com.au to help inspire and assist parents to keep packing healthy lunch boxes throughout the year.
On the website parents will find snack ideas, sandwich alternatives, recipes, tips and easy healthy swaps for those common lunch box items that are not the best for our kids. Parents can also get their kids involved in choosing lunch box foods they will actually eat and enjoy using the interactive Healthy Lunch Box Builder.
In a recent review by Flinders University in Adelaide, Healthy Lunch Box rated highest when compared with other lunch box apps and websites (https://www.saxinstitute.org.au/publications/22904/). This reflects the websites high level of functionality, quality of information and design.

On the last day of term 2 all classes enjoyed 'Flashlight Friday' during their library lessons!
This coincided with the Year 6 Pyjama Day and the students enjoyed reading their own published work or library books by flashlight.
It was SO comfortable being dressed in our PJ's and lying in beanbags or on cushions to enjoy the variety of publications on offer.
Library lights were turned off and blinds closed so that students could read with the aid of a torch.
We loved hearing the narratives, recounts and poems that the students had published in class during the term.
