Welcome back to Term 2. I hope your Easter was a happy and holy one and you ate some, or maybe loads, of chocolate. At St Mary's we celebrated the season on Thursday in Week 11. Our Year 6 leaders led a solemn procession in the playground to our sacred space. They held the cross up high. Students then placed their own cross in the space following the reading and prayers. We then shared a meal together, symbolic of the passover meal celebrated by Jews for thousands of years. It was a moving and fitting celebration. Please take a moment to review the photos in this newsletter.
Thank you to the many parents and students who supported the Batlow ANZAC Day march last Thursday. We are grateful that so many people keep this on their yearly calendar to commemorate the soldiers who have fallen and returned veterans. Lest we Forget.
Teachers attended a professional development day in Cootamundra yesterday on Challenging Learning, led by Martin Renton from the UK and Leonie Anstey our Numeracy Consultant. We considered what Challenging Learning looks like in the classroom, specifically the dialogue, questioning and feedback techniques used to support learning opportunities for students. It was certainly valuable.
Term 2 will start with a a busy few weeks ahead, namely the Western Region Cross Country in Harden this Friday, our Athletics Carnival next week and then NAPLAN in Week 3 (Year 3 and 5 only). Please keep a watchful eye on our school calendar to support your planning over the term.
Kind Regards
Jannine
