- Quote Of The Week
This Friday, 15th March is National Action Against Bullying and Violence Day. St Mary’s has registered for this day along with 4500 other schools across Australia to say that bullying and violence is not acceptable. I invite you to access the government website Bullying No Way https://bullyingnoway.gov.au which provides valuable resources for teachers and parents to support children who may be experiencing bullying or violence. Teachers will be looking at this topic during this week in class and encouraging students to recognise bullying and know what to do about it if it happens to them. To acknowledge this day students are invited to celebrate our diversity by wearing odd coloured socks and bright clothing, because it’s OK to be different. All students have been given a wristband to wear this week to show their support for this initiative.
This Sunday is Mass at St Mary’s Batlow and our school community will present the Liturgy. If you would like to join us please know that you are always welcome. Ms Saunderson is seeking some students to present readings and to do some little jobs. Please let Ms Saunderson know if you are available at 8:30am this Sunday so she can have this organised ahead of time. As it is St Patrick’s Day as well, all attending Mass are invited to wear green to acknowledge the Patron Saint of Ireland, St Patrick. I hope to see you there.
Next week we have scheduled parent teacher interviews. Parent teacher interviews are a collaborative opportunity to support our partnership for your child/ren. This year we are using a feature on our Schoolzine app to arrange interview times. Please let us know if you have any difficulties as we use this feature. We hope it makes the process of booking in a time easier for parents and our office staff. If you are unable to make a meeting time please let your classroom teacher know so that an alternative time can be arranged.
This week I will be attending the Principal’s Conference for all Archdiocesan principals from Wednesday to Friday. While I’m away Ms Saunderson, Religious Education Coordinator will be available in my absence.
Have a good week!
Jannine

St Mary's are offering families a chance to order a reusable lunch bag to use for school lunch orders. These bags are a much more hygienic alternative to a paper bag. There are also other products available for anyone interested.
PRODUCT 1: Lunch Wallet - A reusable lunch order bag
RRP $10.50 each
The Lunch Wallet is specifically designed to replace paper lunch bags when ordering from the canteen. It holds more food than paper bags and its sturdy flat base makes them easy to pack and stack.
Made from non woven polypropylene (like green shopping bags) it is durable and easy to clean, simply remove base and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
The hygienic zippered pocket is to separate money from contact with food and clearly display the childs order and a transparent pocket displays name & class. When not in use, the lunch wallet folds down into a convenient wallet and fastened closed with a velcro strap.
We now have 8 binding colours to choose from. Our latest addition to the range is the orange allergy alert lunch wallet. This lunch wallet is specifically for kids with allergies as it has a unique allergy alert symbol printed on the bag.
PRODUCT 2: The Insulated All Rounder - An insulated reusable lunch order bag or everyday cooler bag
RRP $12.50 each
Like the Lunch Wallet, the Insulated All Rounder has been designed to replace paper lunch bags when ordering from the canteen but this cleverly doubles as an everyday lunch cooler bag aswell.
The insulated PEVA lining keeps food and drinks hot and/or cold and the large zipper pocket separates money from contact with food. It also has a transparent pocket to display name and class details. We have 3 binding colours to choose from.
Everyone – not just kids – should be active every day, in as many ways as possible. Not being active can cause an energy imbalance – that’s when you take in more energy than you actually use. It can have a big effect on your health and how you feel.
Age | How much activity? |
Birth to 1 |
For healthy development in infants, physical activity – particularly supervised floor-based play in safe environments – should be encouraged from birth. |
1 to 5 | At least three hours a day, spread throughout the day. |
5 to 12 |
At least 60 minutes a day of moderate and vigorous activities. It’s even better to be active for up to a three hours every day. Strengthening activities, like climbing or jumping, at least three days of the week. |
13 to 17 |
At least 60 minutes a day of moderate and vigorous activities. For even more health benefits, try to be active for several hours a day. On at least three days per week, include activities that strengthen muscle and bone. |
It sounds like a lot but you don’t have to do it in one go – it all adds up over the day. It’s also fun to do a few different activities.
Moderate activities make your heart beat faster and your breathing become quicker.
Vigorous activity makes you ‘huff and puff’.
Moderate Activities | Vigorous Activities |
Walking fast |
Organised sports |
Bike riding | Running/chasing friends |
Skateboarding | Swimming laps |
Dancing | Star jumps |
Playing on park equipment | Skipping |
Try to be active in lots of different ways and challenge yourself to try something new. Remember that it can take time to learn a new skill or a new sport, so don't expect to be good at something right away.
Why be active?
- To help your body grow properly, giving you strong bones, muscles, lungs and heart.
- To have good flexibility, balance and coordination, so you can move well.
- To meet up with your friends and make new ones.
- To learn how to run, throw, jump, catch and kick, which are part of lots of sports.
- To improve your fitness.
- To help you stay healthy and not get sick.
- To feel happy and full of energy.
- To help you keep at a healthy weight.
- To help you feel relaxed and confident.
- To help you sleep better.
- To improve your posture.
- To learn new skills and challenge yourself.
- To have fun!
