Feast of the Ascension
Last Thursday, 26th of May, Catholics celebrated the Feast of the Ascension - Ascension Thursday and Holy Thursday is held on a Thursday 39 days (40th day of Easter) after Easter Sunday. This day commemorates Jesus Christ’s ascension into heaven. After Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection, Scripture tells us, he was seen for forty days before he ascended into heaven to be “seated at the right hand of God the Father.” (Apostle’s Creed) This is significant as it shows that he returned to Heaven after completing his mission on earth. After Jesus’ ascension, the disciples awaited the promised Spirit in Jerusalem. The Ascension marks the end of the Easter season, and Pentecost follows ten days later.
Phil Whickam does a lovely rendition of the Ascension in song. St Mary’s sang this song beautifully at the Western Region Choir Competition during 2019. You might like to have a listen with the following link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23u5t5__WPc
Sacraments
Last Wednesday evening 4 St Mary’s students; Emily, Thomas, Ethan and Nace, along with their parents, attended their first sacramental meeting for Confirmation. They combined with children from Tumut and Adelong parishes and Father George explained the importance of their final sacrament in their schooling years.
We wish the children and their parents many blessings over the coming weeks as they prepare to receive their sacrament on the 16th of June.
Have a lovely week everyone.
