Dear Parents,
Covid Restrictions
The big news this week is that restrictions are finally easing and we can start to return to normal routines at long last. Masks are still mandatory for one more week for staff and visitors and highly recommended for our primary students, Year 3-6.
Parents are now permitted onsite regardless of vaccination status. Rapid Antigen Test kits were distributed to families last week so that parents may administer as needed over the next 4 weeks. If a student tests positive they will need to isolate for 7 days. Please report any positive cases to NSW Health and myself if this occurs.
When I look at our students in Year 2, who started school in 2020, I note that they have not known school life where their parents could easily walk onto our playground and celebrate together with a large gathering. We have used Facebook to share in our special days and regular classroom events but it is not the same as having that exchange between parents, teachers and students on site. It will seem strange to ‘restart’ for all of us but we are so looking forward to being our St Mary’s school community again. Hand hygiene practices will continue and cleaning of high touch areas will remain. We will delay the start of Home Cooking etc until next term.
So, I ask parents to walk onto our playground again when collecting your children in the afternoon. Please access shade under the shelter, or on the church verandah. You are most welcome.
In the meantime, Ash Wednesday is this Wednesday in the church at 10:30am and parents are most welcome to be with us for the blessing and distribution of ashes.
Parent Teacher Meetings
Phone interviews to parents are happening this week. Please access the Compass portal to make a booking if you haven’t done so already. Teachers will call parents to check in on how well the school year has started for your child/ren.
Director’s Visit
Mr Ross Fox will be visiting our school this Friday 4 March. He will meet with myself, staff and our Year 6 leaders to see how we have started our school year and especially, how we have faired since the bushfires and through Covid restrictions. The director’s last visit was just after the fires and this is his first chance to be back on site with us.
Have a lovely week everyone
Jannine
This Wednesday we see the beginning of Lent acknowledged through our Ash Wednesday Mass tomorrow, 2nd of March. It is wonderful that restrictions have eased for us to gather together in our lovely Church with our local parishioners and parents if they are able to join.
The season of Lent lasts 40 days to represent the amount of time Jesus spent in the desert — fasting and preparing for his ministry — and to celebrate, many Christians choose to make a sacrifice of their own over those 40 days. Luxuries like dessert or chocolate are commonly given up for Lent, or Christians may perform acts of kindness for others through volunteer work throughout the Lenten season, right up until Easter Sunday.
Students have been asked to think about their own Lenten promises during the past few days. They have been encouraged to decide if they would like to give up something or do more of something and be more for others during Lent.
What might you like to do more or less of for the next 40 days of Lent?
Amy Buckmaster – Religious Education Coordinator
Congratulations to Emily and Ethan who received their leaders badges at assembly on Friday.

TOMORROW we will have ASH WEDNESDAY MASS at 10.30am in the CHURCH with Fr and the parishioners.
All welcome to attend
The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.
K - Year 2 are registered every year and we record their reading as part of their Library Program.
If students in Year 3 - Year 6 would like to do the Challenge please contact Mrs Richards.
2022 Challenge dates
- Challenge opened: Monday 28 February 2022
- Challenge closes for student entries: Friday 19 August 2022
St Mary’s is a Crunch and Sip school.
This is a set time in primary schools each morning for students to 'refuel' on vegetables, salad or fruit and 'rehydrate' with water.
Students who are not hungry and are well hydrated perform better in the classroom, show increased concentration,
and are less likely to be irritable and disruptive.
Students are asked to bring fruit, vegetables and a water bottle every day.
Next Tuesday EMILY and STAR WILL BE OUR NEWS PRESENTERS.
Tune in to FM96.3 each Tuesday at 1.45pm to the news from St Mary's.
