- THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK
Dear Parents,
This week I really want to let you know about our teaching programs.
Catholic Education have invested in teacher training programs and purchasing resources to improve student outcomes in Reading. Our system bold goal is Every Child will become a Competent Reader. The suite of MultiLIT materials is vast and their flagship program is InitiaLit-a class program for students in Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2. InitiaLit operates in the K/1/2 classroom every day and students 'peel off' into their year groups to work for 2 hrs in a small group. It is an explicit program and involves students developing their phonemic awareness and phonological knowledge. Home Reading from K/1/2 complements the decoding skills they are learning in class.
MacqLit (3, 4, 5,6) and MinLit(Yr 1/2) programs are also running for small groups targetting spelling, learning tricky words and dictation.
Spelling Mastery is our new spelling program for the majority of students from Year 3-6. It is also an explicit and systematic approach and is held every day Monday to Thursday 11:30-11:50am. The lessons are short and fast targeting new information every day, but building upon the lesson the day before. Although we are in the beginning stages of the program teachers and students are responding to it positively. We look forward to parents coming in to see our excellent programs in action once restrictions ease.
Western Region Swimming Carnival
This Thursday the carnival will be held in Cootamundra. It was previously to be held in Lake Cargellico but with Covid concerns for the aboriginal community in Lake, it was decided to move it to Coota. At this stage we have only a small team attending but small things come in great packages! We wish them a great day of personal bests and good sportsmanship. I will be the teacher in charge. Good luck Amara, Morgan, Ethan and Dylan.
2's day!
Today was a fun day! Every day teachers write the date on the board and we could not miss the opportunity on 22.2.22 to be a little silly. Tutu's, tiara's, t-shirts and ties on 2's today! I hope you enjoy the photos we have collected and I hope you got to mark the day in your own workplaces...maybe.
Have a lovely week everyone.

At the beginning of each year, St Mary’s classroom teachers provide time for a ‘Meet and Greet’ style interview with parents. It’s a great way to get to know parents and their child through a one on one conversation.
This year, we will offer the same opportunity for a catchup, but using a phone call meeting to satisfy covid restrictions. Teachers have indicated when they are available next week and parents are asked to select a time. A notification will be sent out via Compass when the bookings are open.
Questions you may be asked are:
- How has the year started for your child?
- Is there something I need to know about your child?
- What are your child’s strengths and areas of need?
Please select a time for a ten minute catch up as soon as possible.
Last week we celebrated 'new beginnings' for the start of 2022. Our students were amazing and reverent under the COLA for our outside Mass.
Congratulations to our Year 6 leaders and Thank you Fr George for presiding.
STUDENT PERMISSION AND MEDICAL CONDITION CHECKLISTS
It is important that our records are up to date.
